Capacity Strengthening of TVET Colleges:
A significant milestone includes successfully integrating IYF’s Passport to Success® (PTS) life skills content into existing TVET qualifications. Approved and funded by DHET, this integration has reached approximately 144,000 students across all 50 TVET colleges in South Africa by May 2023. Nationally, 363 lecturers have undergone virtual training programs, adopting more youth-responsive pedagogies.
Enhancement of Student Outcomes:
Demonstrating a commitment to student success, S4L has positively impacted academic results. Lecturer capacitation and enriched teaching methods have enhanced learner engagement, comprehension, and overall academic performance. The programme has surpassed workplace readiness targets, successfully placing 1229 young individuals in learnerships and employment opportunities.
Engagement of the Private Sector:
A core strength lies in the effective engagement of the private sector through strategic partnerships and collaborations. Supported by key government entities, this approach has created numerous job opportunities for young people in the region, setting a model for sustained partnerships and reinforcing TVET institutions’ capacity.
Extending Impact to Botswana:
Expanding on the success of the S4L programme in South Africa, a collaborative effort between De Beers Group and IYF is now extending its reach to Botswana. Through a comprehensive skills gap assessment, the programme aims to address knowledge and skills mismatches, systemic issues, and contribute to a brighter future for the youth in the region. This extension builds on the success of the S4L programme, furthering the vision of a sustainable skills ecosystem.
